Food
Each day we provide a variety of primarily organic, fresh foods for lunch and snacks. I receive a box of farm fresh, seasonal produce from a local farm , as well as eat home grown vegetables that the children pick, such as peas, lettuce, chard, spinach, fresh herbs, beets and tomatoes.
A typical menu includes: pasta with veggies and cheese, fresh beans with quesadillas and sliced avocado, beans with veggies and cheese, lentils and rice with seasonal veggies, grilled chicken, white fish with fruit salsa.
I try to offer a variety of foods and old favorites that I know the children will eat. I rotate weekly menus that I update according to what is in season. I email the weekly menu to parents every Saturday or Sunday. Menu substitutions are available only due to allergies or if the child hasn't been exposed to a certain food yet. I do try to incorporate the children's favorite foods and meals, working with allergies, sensitivities, food preferences and restrictions.. Happy Babies follows a USDA sponsored federal food program, which oversees nutrition training and education for child care providers. Food is included in the cost of the program. You can also opt out of the food program and provide your child with packed lunch and/or snacks. There is no tuition adjustment if you opt out.
